Swing Around Fun Town Fundraiser -- June 2nd, 2021

Our final fundraiser of the school year is Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Swing-A-Round Fun Town in Fenton. It is open to all McKinley students and their families and friends! Tickets can be purchased for $17.00 per person for 2 hours of play, anytime between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.; $5.00 of that cost will be contributed to the McKinley Band Boosters! Unlimited play will include all the outdoor fun (mini golf, go karts, bumper boats, batting cages, kiddie karts) as well as the indoor playground and bumper cars. Guests simply need to show a copy of the flyer, either printed or on their phones. For families who feel comfortable doing so, this is a great way to have a year-end get-together with other McKinley families, let the kids blow off some steam, and support the Band Boosters.

McKinley CLA Band Boosters Inc. would like to officially congratulate our graduating seniors!

Ruth Christopher has been an instrumentalist in McKinley bands for 7 years. While her primary instrument is double bass, she also plays electric bass, acoustic guitar, some percussion instruments, and has a beautiful singing voice! She has also had some experience conducting.

Ruth's favorite band memories are going on band trips with all of her friends. She also fondly remembers many band room shenanigans, such as instrument swapping (pre-Covid, of course). Ruth's advice to her younger band peers is to stay confident in your abilities and trust in your section leader; also, don't lose your practice card! After graduating, Ruth plans to major in double bass performance at The Juilliard School in New York City.

Alexander Thomas has been an instrumentalist in McKinley bands for 7 years. His primary instruments are baritone saxophone and bass clarinet, but he also plays alto and tenor saxophone and soprano and alto clarinet. Alexander's favorite memories in the band program were all of the band trips with the long, bonding bus rides and amazing competitions. Being able to have all of the hard work from the year shown off to insightful and inspiring judges who then gave worthwhile advice about the band's musicianship, as well as getting a chance to hear other amazing musicians perform, was one of the most fulfilling parts of the band program. After graduating, Alexander plans to attend the UMKC Conservatory to study Jazz Performance, with an emphasis on Baritone Saxophone.

Senior Quote: "Not one ounce of my self-worth depends on your acceptance of me."

To our returning band students, congratulations on making it through a very challenging year.

Facebook fundraisers

Over the past couple of years, several of our Band Booster parents have raised significant funds for McKinley CLA Bands by holding Facebook Fundraisers on their birthdays. Feel free to ask a board member if you would like more information about how to do this.

We also now have a donate button on our Facebook page! At some point during the school year, you might consider sharing one of our FB posts and inviting your friends to make a donation to our band program.
